Recently, Kazakhstanis have increasingly complained of ailments resembling coronavirus infection. Residents across the country have taken to social media to report sore throats, coughs, and loss of taste and smell. However, the Ministry of Health urges the public not to panic or self-diagnose, reports infohub.kz.
According to the ministry, currently circulating in Kazakhstan are rhinovirus, adenovirus, parainfluenza, and seasonal coronaviruses, including COVID-19. Medics note that no signs of a new dangerous strain have been detected. Specialists remind that in children under one year, pregnant women, the elderly, and patients with chronic diseases, even a common cold can take a severe course.
"There is currently no rise in viral infections among the population. We are observing background or seasonal morbidity, and among the viruses identified by our laboratories, there are no unusual ones," said Ainagul Kuatbayeva, director of the branch of the National Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health.
