Six residents of Astana fell victim to a fraudster who promised to help them obtain driver's licenses through acquaintances but pocketed all the money they gave him, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the total damage amounted to 2.3 million tenge. During the trial, the prosecutor presented irrefutable evidence of the defendant's guilt. When passing the sentence, the court took into account his sincere confession and partial compensation for the damage caused.
As a result, the man was sentenced to 3.5 years of restriction of liberty with probation supervision. In addition, throughout the entire term of the sentence, he will be obliged to perform 100 hours of community service annually.
Several restrictions were also imposed on the convict. He is forbidden to change his place of residence or work without notifying the probation service, to visit entertainment venues associated with alcohol consumption, and to register as unemployed if he is not working. In addition, he must comply with the court-imposed restriction on staying outside his place of residence at night. The verdict has already entered into legal force.
The capital's prosecutor's office urges citizens not to give money to individuals who promise to assist in obtaining public services bypassing the legal procedure, and to use only legal methods.
