Students and faculty at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University were evacuated after an unattended bag was found, but the alarm turned out to be false, the website infohub.kz reports.
News of the evacuation at the university first appeared on the social network Threads. The press service of the Almaty Police Department confirmed to a NUR.KZ correspondent that a bag left unattended had been found in a university building.
"As part of the initial response measures, the city's emergency services immediately arrived at the scene. To ensure safety, students and teaching staff were evacuated. During the inspection, it was established that the bag belonged to a student and contained school supplies. As it turned out, the item posed no danger," the police said.
The Almaty Police Department thanked citizens for their vigilance and responsible attitude toward security. It also reminded the public that anyone who finds suspicious or unattended items should immediately report them by calling 102 and should not take any independent action with such items.
