Kazakhstan's Interior Ministry has released details of the murder of a resident of Khromtau, whose dismembered body was found in 2024. The ministry's video shows search footage, including the moment the victim's head was removed from a freezer, reports infohub.kz.
The investigation began after the missing man's wife reported him to the police. She said her husband had not been in touch or home for about a week.
Police reconstructed the man's social circle, interviewing relatives, neighbors, friends, and coworkers, and checking places he might have been. They eventually identified two acquaintances. The released video shows the search process.
During a search of the suspects' home, evidence linking them to the crime was found. As previously reported, the victim's head was discovered in a freezer belonging to one of the suspects, while the rest of the body was found in several bags.
"During the search of their residence, physical evidence was found indicating the suspects' involvement in a particularly serious crime. Under the weight of irrefutable evidence, the men confessed," the Interior Ministry stated.
In February 2025, a court sentenced the defendants. One was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 11 years in prison. The second received four years for covering up a particularly serious crime.
Earlier, a similar case was reported in Almaty, where a pensioner killed and dismembered her sister. The 67-year-old woman, driven by long-standing animosity, murdered her relative, then dismembered the body and disposed of it in a trash container.
