In China, a hacker breached the servers of Volda, a company that makes smart sockets and power strips for aquariums, and shut them down, causing life-support systems to fail and owners to return home to find dead fish, according to infohub.kz.

The attack occurred during celebrations of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The perpetrator disabled Volda's servers, after which connected sockets across the country stopped working. Owners could no longer turn the equipment on manually through the app.

The power outage also caused systems that maintained living conditions in aquariums nationwide to stop functioning. While owners were away, many fish died.

Volda apologized to affected users and said it had already closed security vulnerabilities. According to the company, the perpetrator was identified, and Chinese police have launched an investigation. Volda now plans to strengthen the protection of its services and organize round-the-clock monitoring of systems.
