At the Kazakhstan–China investment forum held in Almaty, Akmola Region Governor Marat Akhmetzhanov signed two agreements with Chinese investors. The first provides for the construction of three wind power plants, the second for the modernization of a grain elevator in Zhaksy District. According to the regional administration, total investment in these projects could reach $506 million, infohub.kz reports.

SUNGROW Renewable Development Co., Ltd. plans to build plants with capacities of 300, 100 and 50 MW. The largest will be located in Esil District, the other two in Zerendi District. The combined capacity of the three facilities will be 450 MW, with investment estimated at up to $500 million.

Land plots have already been allocated, and the project documentation has passed state expert review. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026 and be completed by 2028. Once the plants are operational, more than 25 permanent jobs will be created.

"The new project will increase renewable energy capacity, attract private investment and create new jobs. The regional administration will support the projects at every stage," Akhmetzhanov said.

SUNGROW Renewable Development is part of the Chinese group Sungrow Power Supply, whose shares are traded on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. According to the governor, in 2023 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 221 MW were implemented jointly with SUNGROW in Arshaly District. Investment in them exceeded 100 billion tenge.

In addition, the company signed an agreement to build a 200 MW wind farm in Khromtau District of Aktobe Region. In 2025, the local administration valued this project at $171 million and planned to launch the plant in 2027.

The second project concerns a grain elevator in the village of Kazakhskoye in Zhaksy District. China's East Hope Group acquired the existing facility and is carrying out its reconstruction. The work is approximately 80% complete, with launch planned for October 2026.

After modernization, the enterprise will be able to receive, store and process wheat, as well as produce up to 100,000 tonnes of feed flour per year. $6 million will be invested in the project. Once at full capacity, it will create 30 permanent jobs.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that France's Total has begun building a giant 1 GW wind farm, Mirny, in Kazakhstan with an integrated energy storage system. Total investment is expected to reach $1.1 billion.
