Police in Kokshetau are investigating a fraud case linked to illegal employment abroad. A local woman, who was unemployed, deceived citizens for several years by promising to help them find work in the United Kingdom, collecting tens of millions of tenge from them, reports infohub.kz.

The scam was run through social media. From 2023 to January 2026, the suspect actively offered her services to arrange documents for travel to the UK. She charged money for work visas, medical insurance, biometric appointments, and various fees. She received payments both in cash and via bank transfers, but never fulfilled any of her promises.

So far, 93 people have been officially recognized as victims. Preliminary estimates put the total damage at around 60 million tenge. Investigators have opened a criminal case under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan ("fraud on an especially large scale"). The suspect has been placed under house arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
