In Kokshetau, a local woman has become a suspect in a criminal case over the theft of jewelry worth 3.4 million tenge. The incident occurred after she discovered a bag with valuables in a courtyard, reports infohub.kz.
According to the police department of Akmola region, a woman reported the loss of her bag, which she had left on a bench in the courtyard of a building on Abylai Khan Avenue. When she returned after some time, her belongings were gone.
Police officers reviewed footage from surveillance cameras installed in the area. Thanks to the recordings, they were able to trace the subsequent events and identify the woman who took the abandoned bag.
As it turned out, she waited for the owner to return for a while, but then decided to take the items with her. On her way home, she discarded the bag, keeping the phone, watch, and jewelry.
The next day, she pawned one of the gold rings for 150,000 tenge. According to her, the money was spent on food and medicine.
"A pre-trial investigation into the theft is underway, and investigative actions are ongoing," the regional police department reported.
The police reminded that appropriating found property is also classified as theft and entails liability under the law. Found items must be returned to the owner or handed over to the nearest police station.
