A system monitoring average vehicle speed will come into operation on the Konaev–Taldykorgan highway starting October 21, 2026, the website infohub.kz reports, citing the joint-stock company National Company KazAvtoZhol.

The newly monitored section links Almaty Region and Zhetisu Region. Once it is connected, the number of national highways where average-speed violations are recorded will rise to 16.

"The system works by measuring a vehicle's average speed between control arches. Cameras record the time a vehicle passes the set points, after which the speed is calculated based on the distance covered. This means that briefly slowing down in front of a camera will not help a driver avoid a violation being recorded if the vehicle exceeded the posted limit along the monitored section," the statement said.

Since the start of 2026, 550,000 average-speed violations and 163,500 violations detected by instantaneous speed measurement have been recorded on national highways, according to the company. In total, more than 713,000 speeding violations have been registered.

"The National Company urges motorists to observe the posted speed limit throughout their entire route and to avoid dangerous speeding," KazAvtoZhol added.

It was reported earlier that Kazakhstan's average-speed monitoring system will cover four more toll road sections from October 13.
