A scandal has erupted in Konayev, where a local woman accuses police officers and animal control staff of killing 19 of her domestic cats, reports infohub.kz.

According to the woman, while she was at a police station, 19 cats were killed in her apartment. Only two were rescued, taken away in her presence.

The shocking story was posted on social media by the resident. According to her account, events unfolded on July 14. A local precinct officer allegedly came to her home following a neighbor's complaint about keeping animals. Shortly after, animal control officers entered the apartment. In a video provided by the woman, a ransacked room is visible, with what appear to be bloodstains on the floor and walls.

The owner flatly refused to give up the cats. Then, she wrote, police allegedly subdued her and took her to the precinct station No. 1, filing a report for resisting authorities.

"As the author stated, a 17-year-old girl remained in the apartment at that moment. She was locked in the next room and heard the frantic cries of animals as a mass capture took place. Now the woman is looking for lawyers and attorneys, and asks for financial help."

Opinions in the comments are divided. Some users pointed to the mess and unsanitary conditions in the apartment, expressing distrust of the author. Others expressed concern over the actions of the police, discussing the inviolability of the home and the cruelty of those who killed the animals.

The editorial team contacted the police department of Almaty region for clarification. After several hours, no response has been received.
