A man in Kazakhstan's Kostanay Region who had already been stripped of his driving rights got behind the wheel drunk again — and paid with his freedom. As infohub.kz reports, a year in prison plus a lifetime driving ban was the outcome of proceedings in the Lisakovsk City Court.

According to the official Telegram channel of the Kostanay Region courts, the court heard a criminal case against a man for driving while deprived of his driving rights and under the influence of alcohol (Part 1 of Article 346 of the Criminal Code).

It was established that in September 2026, in the settlement of Oktyabrsky, the driver — who had been stripped of his driving rights — was behind the wheel of a VAZ-21101 while intoxicated. He was detained by police officers.

The defendant fully admitted his guilt, repented of what he had done and asked the court not to imprison him.

The court recognized his full admission of guilt and sincere remorse as circumstances mitigating criminal liability and punishment. The court found no aggravating circumstances.

Taking into account the nature and degree of public danger of the criminal offense, classified as a crime of medium gravity, as well as information about the defendant's personality, the court sentenced him to 1 year in prison with a lifetime ban on driving.

The convicted man was taken into custody in the courtroom. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
