A court in Kazakhstan's Kostanay Region has reduced the compensation for a land plot expropriated for state needs by more than 118 million tenge, reports infohub.kz.
According to the regional prosecutor's office, after receiving notice of the expropriation process, the owner renovated the property, increasing its area. This led to a substantial rise in the claimed redemption price.
The court ruled the owner's actions as bad faith and overturned the first-instance decision: the compensation was cut from 273.9 million tenge to 155 million tenge. The appeal was filed by the Kostanay Region prosecutor's office.
The supervisory body noted that such practices help prevent unjustified budget spending and curb gains from dishonest behavior.
