Unknown individuals have stolen a white marble headstone and a metal fence from a grave at the city cemetery near the airport in Kostanay. The incident was reported on the social network Threads, and police confirmed the theft, according to infohub.kz.
According to the published reports, the crime was particularly cynical: the looters literally tore the headstone from the burial site and removed it from the cemetery grounds. The disappearance was discovered recently. The authors of the post suggested that the stolen white marble headstone may be sold or resold to local funeral companies for reuse.
It is noted that a report has been filed with the police over the incident.
The Kostanay Region Police Department specified that a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the theft of the headstone and metal fence from the grave at the cemetery.
"Police officers are carrying out operational and search measures aimed at identifying and detaining those involved. The persons who committed the crime will be identified and held criminally liable in accordance with the law," the department's press service said.
