A court in Kostanay has begun hearing a case involving the brutal beating of a police officer in the courtyard of a residential building. Three young men are on trial, according to infohub.kz.
According to Almaty TV channel, the incident occurred in late March this year. A video of the beating quickly spread on social media and sparked widespread public outcry. It was reported that the officer left his home with his children, put them in a car, and approached a group of intoxicated young men to reprimand them for drinking alcohol in the courtyard. The verbal argument escalated into a fight.
During the hearing, prosecutor Yerkebulan Aitbayev stated: "K. was focused on detaining D. and had limited ability to defend himself. He approached a nearby car, ran up to the victim, and deliberately delivered at least four kicks with his right leg to the head and torso area of K. The blows were delivered with sufficient force to vital parts of the body, causing K. to lose consciousness."
The group of intoxicated young men continued to beat the officer even after he lost consciousness. As a result, he suffered a concussion and contusions. Three young men aged 20 to 25 are on trial. They are charged with using violence dangerous to life or health against a representative of authority, committed by a group of persons.
At the first hearing, the victim's lawyer filed a motion to return the case to the prosecutor. "I asked to interrogate witnesses, I asked to make a procedural decision in the form of registration in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations against many persons, including the victim himself," explained lawyer Oleg Brantsev.
Additionally, the defense noted that the case file consists of seven volumes, but only six were provided to the defendants for review. The next hearing is scheduled for September 16. Until then, the defendants will be able to study the case materials in more detail. If found guilty, the young men face imprisonment for 10 to 15 years.
Recall that in late March, information appeared in messengers that on the morning of March 28, a crowd of young people beat a police officer in the Bereke microdistrict of Kostanay after he reprimanded them for violating public order. Police reported that all suspects were identified and detained at the scene. A criminal case was opened on the attack on a representative of authority. Later, a court sanctioned a two-month arrest for three suspects.
On August 24, it became known that the prosecutor's office had sent the case of the beating of a police officer in the courtyard of a multi-story building to court.
