Law enforcement officers in Kostanay have detained two previously convicted men who threatened a victim with physical violence and extorted a large sum of money. The Kostanay Region Police Department reported on the special operation and its results, according to infohub.kz.
According to investigators, since September the suspects had been demanding 17 million tenge from the victim, threatening force and physical violence. The department clarified that the detainees were extorting 4.4 million tenge.
"On October 28, the suspects were detained by officers of the Department for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with the Department for Combating Extremism of the Kostanay Regional Police Directorate and the Orel special-purpose unit," the department said.
During a search, 4.4 million tenge, a Kia Sportage vehicle and mobile phones were seized from the detainees.
The men's actions were classified as deliberate extortion by a group of individuals. The suspects have been placed in a pre-trial detention facility.
A pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and all circumstances of the incident are being established.
