Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has responded to European concerns about a possible nuclear strike by Moscow, according to infohub.kz.
According to RIA Novosti, European countries suspect Russia of developing a plan to carry out a nuclear strike. The Kremlin spokesman assured that Moscow has no such plans.
"It is the Europeans who are whipping up hysteria around this topic. And we call on them to restrain their emotions and look at the situation objectively," the Russian leader's press secretary added.
TASS notes that the conditions for using nuclear weapons are clearly set out in Russia's doctrinal documents, primarily concerning the protection of territorial integrity. Peskov told journalists this on the sidelines of the XXIII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia's embassy in Ireland said the state was ready to use nuclear weapons against NATO countries if there was an attempt to isolate Kaliningrad. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed that the alliance had received a warning from the Russian Federation.
Before that, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Moscow does not intend to attack Europe. At the same time, he threatened European countries with a "short war" in the event of an attack on Russia.
It was also reported that NATO has prepared a plan in case of war with Russia.
