Dmitry Peskov, press secretary for the Russian president, commented on US leader Donald Trump's statement that Ukraine should find a new leader, according to infohub.kz.

According to Peskov, Trump believes it is time for Ukraine to elect a new leader, as Vladimir Zelensky is not demonstrating the necessary political will to end the conflict.

"Trump said he believes it is time for a new president. Why? Because the president of Ukraine must make very responsible and very difficult decisions to stop this war. Either Zelensky takes on that responsibility and shows that political will, or he does not," Peskov said.

The Kremlin representative noted that so far Zelensky does not want to do this. Earlier, Peskov told the publication that it is important for Moscow that someone on the Kyiv side show political will to recognize the realities on the ground and move toward a peaceful settlement.

Recall that Trump previously lashed out at Zelensky, saying Ukraine should find a new leader capable of making deals. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha immediately commented on the situation. In addition, yesterday the US president said that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an energy truce.
