Death row inmate Krista Gail Pike has regained consciousness after her scheduled execution in Tennessee was halted, her attorneys said, according to infohub.kz.

Citing PBS News, Pike's defense team said she woke up in the hospital and is even speaking. This came six days after the failed attempt to carry out the sentence by lethal injection.

Rights advocates stress that her survival raises new questions about the inmate's health and her legal future.

"Against all expectations, Krista Pike is conscious, speaking, and continuing to receive intensive medical care," her attorneys said.

WSMV4 reported that the execution survivor remains handcuffed to her hospital bed. Her attorneys noted that her recovery is medically unprecedented.

"We are incredibly grateful to the emergency responders and the hospital's medical team, who treated Krista as a human being and provided her with exceptional care. We also want to thank the thousands of people from around the world who sent messages of prayer and support," they said.

It is still unknown whether the state can make another attempt to execute her. Pike's attorneys are reportedly scheduled to hold a press conference on October 7.

Recall that in Tennessee, Krista Pike's execution failed after two doses of the lethal drug were administered: her attorneys said she continued to breathe and was alive. She was set to become the first woman executed in Tennessee in more than 200 years. Executions in the state were subsequently suspended.

Donald Trump also commented on the situation. However, he referred the question of new attempts to execute Pike to local authorities.
