The press service of the National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) has announced that renovation of Almaty-1 station is nearing completion and shared images of the facility as it currently stands, according to infohub.kz.
According to the company, Almaty-1 station is being prepared for reopening, with work on the building and surrounding area in its final stages. The press service said the renovated building has an area of more than 17,000 square meters.
"Inside, passenger spaces have been reorganized, the waiting hall expanded, and new escalators, elevators and information displays installed. Modern engineering equipment is being installed in the building. Particular attention is being paid to accessibility for passengers with limited mobility and convenience for passengers with children. Commercial premises will be located in the lower part of the building, in the underpass," the company said.
It is reported that modular guest rooms will be available for passengers, and a railway museum will also open. The area in front of the station will also change.
"Instead of a parking area, a landscaped alley with trees and flower beds is being created. Benches and rest areas will appear here, and an information board will be installed. The area will become an extension of the station's passenger space and a more comfortable urban zone. The concourse is being renovated: the structure has been reinforced, and glass elements are being used. Modern materials are being used in the building, the roof and facade have been updated, and interior finishing work is underway," the press service added.
The company claims that work at the site is ongoing around the clock. 407 people are involved in the day shift and 68 in the night shift. Specialized equipment is operating at the site.
