Kazakhstan's national railway operator has clarified the rules for carrying oversized baggage on train journeys, according to infohub.kz.
According to the KTZ press service, passengers in standard carriages may carry hand luggage free of charge weighing up to 35 kg and measuring no more than 100 × 50 × 50 cm.
In Talgo carriages and similar models, free hand luggage is limited to 25 kg and dimensions of no more than 70 × 40 × 40 cm.
"A bicycle without an electric motor, a baby stroller and a kayak may be carried disassembled and packed if they fit in the space designated for hand luggage. This rule does not apply to Talgo carriages," KTZ said.
Items exceeding the established hand luggage limits are classified as oversized and must be registered as baggage in advance. They are transported in the baggage compartment or a universal baggage carriage, depending on the type of train and its technical capabilities. Skis are not permitted in passenger carriages.
"Baggage must not block aisles, doors or passenger seats, or create obstacles for other passengers," KTZ reminded.
In addition, if excess hand luggage is detected, passengers can check it into the baggage carriage on Talgo passenger trains for an additional fee: No. 67/68 Nurly Zhol — Oskemen; No. 9/10 Nurly Zhol — Almaty-2; No. 81/82 Nurly Zhol — Oral; No. 65/66 Nurly Zhol — Kyzylorda.
