During a multi-kilometer alaman-baige race at an international competition in Kyrgyzstan, a rider from Kazakhstan fell from his horse. A local boy, Alikhan Askarbekov, then jumped onto the horse, continued the race, and finished third, according to infohub.kz.
Witnesses say the incident occurred midway through the course. After the rider was out of the race, Askarbekov ran to the horse, mounted it, and rode on. Later, the horse's owner, a Kazakhstani citizen, gave the young athlete the prize money of 250,000 soms (about 1.3 million tenge).
The international horse racing competition "Issyk-Kul Cup – 2026" took place on July 21. The program included alaman-baige, top-baige, kunan-baige, and short-distance races.
Riders and horses from different regions of Kyrgyzstan, as well as guests from Kazakhstan, took part in the competition. Winners and prize-winners were awarded valuable prizes.
