The Prosecutor General's Office of Kyrgyzstan has filed an appeal against the verdict of the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek in the high-profile "Letter of 75" case, which involves former high-ranking officials, including ex-head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) Kamchybek Tashiev, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Kyrgyz news outlet 24.kg, the appeal was submitted by state prosecutors in accordance with Article 397 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The agency did not specify what changes the prosecution is seeking in the verdict.
The case involves former Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev, former Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, former Prosecutor General Kurmankul Zulushev, as well as politicians Bekbolot Talgarbekov, Aaly Karashev, Ernist Uzakbaev, Kursan Asanov, and Kurmanbek Dyikanbaev.
It is worth recalling that in February of this year, Kamchybek Tashiev was dismissed from the post of Chairman of the SCNS. He himself stated that he did not expect to be fired. The country's president, in turn, noted that Tashiev would never return to public service.
Member of the Jogorku Kenesh Elvira Surabaldieva said in an interview that the former head of the SCNS was dismissed for organizing an attempted coup d'état. Soon, three former high-ranking officials were officially charged in this case: ex-head of the SCNS Kamchybek Tashiev, former deputy Kurmankul Zulushev, and former Toraga of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu.
The charges are grave, related to organizing mass riots and actions that the investigation considers an attempted coup. The process is called the "Case of 75" because of an open letter that, according to investigators, was signed by 75 people. The letter contained calls for early presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan.
Earlier, ex-head of the SCNS Kamchybek Tashiev had already appealed the verdict in this case.
