Kyrgyzstan's men's football team suffered a crushing defeat to Japan at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, ending their hopes of winning a medal at the tournament, infohub.kz reports.
The Group A second-round match took place at Toyota Stadium in the city of Toyota. The hosts won 7-0.
Yumeki Yokoyama (28th minute), Shuto Nagano (36), Yuto Ozeki (39) and Hisatsugu Ishii (72) scored from open play. Yudai Shimamoto netted a brace (79, 86). Yotaro Nakajima added another from the penalty spot (70).
The second straight defeat means Kyrgyzstan has lost any chance of advancing to the knockout stage of the Asian Games. The team sits at the bottom of the group table, trailing Hong Kong on tiebreakers.
Japan and Thailand, meanwhile, have both collected six points and secured early qualification for the quarterfinals. The two teams will face off in the final round to decide first place in the group.
