Kyrgyzstan has taken urgent security measures ahead of two major international events — the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and the World Nomad Games, reports infohub.kz.
According to NUR.KZ citing 24kg, Secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Adilet Orozbekov held a meeting of the coordination headquarters to discuss preparations for these events. During the meeting, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Committee for National Security, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Health, and other agencies, as well as local authorities, reported on the measures being taken.
Special attention was paid to informing the public about temporary traffic restrictions on streets and highways during the summit and games. Orozbekov emphasized that the upcoming events are unprecedented in the country's history in terms of scale, the number of heads of state, foreign delegations, and guests.
Following the meeting, state bodies and local authorities were instructed to take additional measures to ensure anti-terrorist, public, and road safety. Sanitary and epidemiological control has also been strengthened, and emergency services are on high alert.
The World Nomad Games will take place from August 31 to September 6. The competitions will be held for the sixth time, with about 3,000 athletes from more than 100 countries expected to participate. The SCO summit of leaders is expected to take place in Bishkek from August 30 to September 1. The organization includes 10 countries, including Kazakhstan.
