Police in Kyzylorda are searching for a driver who struck a woman and her baby and fled the scene. The child died, the website infohub.kz reports.
Footage from the scene of the horrific road accident was published on the Telegram channel "Criminal Kazakhstan." According to the post, a Mitsubishi Lancer Sedan hit a woman with a small child, after which the driver left the scene of the accident. The driver was born in 2000, and police have put him on the wanted list.
The woman was taken to intensive care with severe injuries, including head injuries and fractures of the ribs and pelvis. Her son, born on May 20, 2026, was with her. The infant was also hospitalized with a head injury, but the child could not be saved.
A NUR.KZ correspondent sent a request to the press service of the Police Department of the Kyzylorda Region. Officials there said criminal cases had been opened over the road accident that resulted in a person's death, as well as over leaving the scene of the accident.
"The identity of the suspect has been established. The Police Department of the Kyzylorda Region is taking all necessary measures to determine his whereabouts and detain him. The checkpoint regime has been tightened at the exits from the city. All forces and means of the police department are involved in the operational search measures to detain the suspect," the response to the request said.
