A dispute over a strip of land just 48 centimetres wide cost a London woman three years of litigation and ended in her defeat, with the Land Tribunal ruling the contested plot belongs to her neighbours, infohub.kz reports.

According to The Times of India, the British woman bought a house with land in 2021 for 600,000 pounds sterling. A year after the purchase, she had a survey carried out and claimed that the neighbours' kitchen-dining room extended 48 centimetres beyond her property line.

The owner demanded that the extension be demolished or compensation be paid, but the neighbours refused to give up the disputed strip of land.

The proceedings dragged on for three years and reached the Land Tribunal. The claimant argued that the neighbours had unlawfully seized part of her property during construction, while they insisted that the boundaries of the plot had been established historically by previous owners several decades earlier.

The court sided with the defendants and recognised the disputed strip as their property. The judge noted that when buying the property the claimant had seen the actual boundaries and the size of the house, and that the disputed extension had stood in its place long before the transaction.
