The legendary Louvre museum in Paris, home to countless artistic and historical treasures, closed its doors to visitors on October 19, 2026, amid protests on the streets of the French capital, infohub.kz reports.
The museum said in a post on its official X account that it was not admitting visitors. "Dear visitors, the museum is currently closed due to student strikes. We apologize for any inconvenience caused," the statement said.
French journalist Luc Offre shared video footage filmed on the streets of Paris on X and said protesters had blocked the entrance to the Louvre. According to him, students blocked access to the legendary museum on the morning of October 19. "Tourists are starting to protest, demanding to be allowed into the Louvre, which has been blocked by students," he wrote.
In another post, the journalist specified that students from the École du Louvre had been blocking the museum entrance since the morning, with large numbers of tourists waiting in the square in front of the building.
It is worth recalling that protests by high school students swept across France in late September. The day before, spontaneous protests took place in Paris ahead of a major student demonstration, one of which ended in clashes with police and the use of tear gas. The previous day, President Emmanuel Macron recorded a video address to the nation.
More than 2,000 participants in mass protests against the rising cost of living were detained in France. Meanwhile, business owners and city mayors have described the aftermath of the riots across the country.
