Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has clarified the reasons behind his decision to send some citizens to serve in the military on the border with Ukraine, reports the website infohub.kz.
Earlier, on July 21, Lukashenko ordered that those who work poorly in agriculture, especially during the harvest season, be sent to the army. He stated that the army should take in those who "work poorly and violate labor discipline in agriculture, especially during the harvest campaign."
On July 30, 2026, during a visit to Brest region, he elaborated: "This is not to scare anyone or to swell the army ranks. If you don't want to work at this job, we'll test you on another. Normal men's and women's work – in the army. There are mosquitoes, gnats and so on. Let them serve there. This is not any kind of mockery of people; we are simply giving an opportunity to prove themselves in another job – difficult male work."
