French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez submitted his resignation amid mass unrest across the country, but President Emmanuel Macron refused to accept it. The Élysée Palace confirmed the move to France Info, according to infohub.kz.

Rather than dismiss the minister, the head of state instructed him to roll out new operational methods on the ground as quickly as possible. The Élysée Palace explained that the president made the decision "given the need for constant command of the forces of law and order in the current context."

Earlier, Marine Tondelier, a presidential candidate from the Green party Les Écologistes, called on the interior minister to step down.

Recall that in late September, France was swept by protests by high school students. The day before, spontaneous protests broke out in Paris ahead of a major student demonstration, one of which ended in clashes with police and the use of tear gas. French President Emmanuel Macron issued a statement amid the ongoing protests in the country, expressing support for law enforcement officers.

US President Donald Trump also commented on the protests, urging the French authorities to close the borders and blaming illegal migrants for the unrest.

Last night, Emmanuel Macron recorded a video address to the nation. More than 2,000 participants in mass protests against the rising cost of living were detained in France. Meanwhile, business owners and city mayors described the aftermath of the riots across the country.
