The trial of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores will begin in New York on June 1, 2027. Judge Alvin Hellerstein made the ruling during a hearing on Wednesday, agreeing with the U.S. Department of Justice's proposal. The previous day, the couple was brought to court by U.S. marshals for the hearing, according to infohub.kz.
The capture of Nicolas Maduro occurred on the night of January 3 in Caracas, where explosions were heard. U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States carried out large-scale strikes, and Maduro and his wife were captured and taken out of the country.
On January 5, Maduro and his wife appeared in a New York court and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Maduro called himself a prisoner of war. Venezuela's Supreme Court ruled that Vice President Delcy Rodriguez would temporarily assume presidential duties.
In mid-March, media reported that Maduro was being held in a solitary punishment cell measuring 3 by 2 meters.
