Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores appeared in a New York court for the first time, according to inbusiness.kz.
Both defendants wore prison uniforms but without shackles or handcuffs. Before the hearing, Maduro greeted journalists in English, saying good morning, and shook hands with his lawyers, while his wife hugged her attorney.
Both defendants used simultaneous interpretation throughout the hearing. The judge set the start of the trial on the merits for Maduro and Flores for June 1, 2027.
Today's hearing was originally scheduled for June 30 but was postponed at the request of the prosecution, citing logistics and security concerns.
