The judges unanimously awarded the victory to Makhachev with scores of 49:46, 49:46, and 48:47. His professional record now stands at 29 wins and one loss, while Garry suffered his second career defeat, with 17 wins and 2 losses.
This victory was Makhachev's 17th consecutive win in the UFC. The Russian surpassed the achievement of Brazilian Anderson Silva, who won 16 straight fights, and now holds the record for the longest winning streak in UFC history.
Additionally, Makhachev joined the elite group of fighters who have successfully defended UFC titles in two weight classes. He previously defended his lightweight title four times before vacating it to move up to welterweight.
For the 28-year-old Garry, this loss was only the second of his professional career. The first fighter to defeat the Irishman was Kazakhstan's Shavkat Rakhmonov, who won by unanimous decision in December 2024.
