A 29-year-old man has been detained in the Kazakh capital on suspicion of car fraud. He sold a Toyota Camry belonging to someone else at a reduced price, causing the owner damages of 11.5 million tenge, reports infohub.kz.
According to the investigation, the suspect took photos of his acquaintance's white Toyota Camry, exploiting the trust between them. He then used these photos to offer the car to another acquaintance, concealing the fact that the vehicle was not his and he had no right to sell it. As a result, the car owner suffered material damage in the specified amount.
After the victim filed a police report, the suspect was identified and apprehended during operational search measures. He is currently held in a temporary detention facility. A pre-trial investigation is underway.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges citizens to remain vigilant and to formalize all transactions involving vehicles in accordance with legal requirements before handing them over to third parties. Even agreements between acquaintances should be documented. Verbal agreements based solely on trust can lead to citizens falling victim to fraudsters.
