Police in Astana have detained a 27-year-old man following a report of an attack on a woman in President's Park, according to infohub.kz.
On July 29, a video circulated online in which a resident of Astana described an attack in President's Park. She said that in the morning, an unknown man grabbed her, but after she screamed, he released her and fled toward a nearby residential complex. Following the incident, the woman filed a complaint with the police.
A call to spread information about the incident also appeared on Threads. The post claimed the attack occurred around 9:05 a.m. on Sarayshyk Street, near the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation. The author stated that an unknown man attacked the woman as she was walking to work and attempted to assault her. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) responded to the post, saying police immediately launched operational search measures.
"In response to the unlawful actions committed against a resident of the capital in the park, police officers immediately carried out operational search measures. The identity of the offender was established in the shortest possible time. A 27-year-old man was detained and taken to the police station. He is currently being held in a temporary detention facility," the MVD said in a statement.
The ministry noted that the man has been charged with petty hooliganism. The case materials have been sent to court for review. "The police remind that any unlawful actions that violate public order and the safety of citizens will be immediately suppressed, and those responsible will be held accountable in accordance with the law," the MVD emphasized.
