A repeat sweet-toothed offender from Zharkent stole more than 600 chocolate bars from a store over the course of a month, causing over 530,000 tenge in damages, reports infohub.kz.
A representative of a shopping center in the Zhetysu region filed a complaint with the police about regular thefts of chocolate bars of the "Rakhat Kazakhstan" brand. After reviewing surveillance footage, security identified the same man as the culprit.
The suspect used a well-practiced method: he would enter the store, make sure no one was watching, hide chocolate bars in his bag and pockets, and then leave without paying. A few minutes later, he would return and repeat the process. On some days, he made up to five or six such visits.
Over the month, 625 chocolate bars disappeared from the shopping center, with total damages exceeding 530,000 tenge.
"Officers of the Panfilov district police department identified and brought in a 41-year-old resident of Zharkent. The man fully confessed to his crime. A pre-trial investigation is underway, and all circumstances of the incident are being established," said the Zhetysu police department.
