Three adult patients hospitalized with signs of botulism after eating cold-smoked fish have been discharged home in the Mangystau Region. The Mangystau Regional Multidisciplinary Hospital said the patients had completed treatment, according to infohub.kz.

Earlier it was reported that three adults and one child were taken to intensive care with signs of botulism after a family gathering in the Munaily District of the Mangystau Region.

The suspected product is home-made cold-smoked fish. All those affected ate it during a family event on September 17, with the first symptoms appearing on the evening of September 18. The patients sought medical help on September 19.

It was later reported that the boy remained in intensive care at the multidisciplinary children's hospital in Aktau. Doctors assessed his condition as serious and continued treatment. Soon after, it became known that the 9-year-old boy admitted to intensive care after food poisoning had died in Aktau.

The Ministry of Health then disclosed details of the child's death after the poisoning in Aktau.

It later emerged that the fish the family ate had been bought at an unspecified roadside location and stored in a refrigerator. The sanitary and epidemiological service noted that it was impossible to determine what was wrong with the fish because no samples remained.
