Surgeons in the Mangystau Region have performed a complex neurosurgical procedure on an infant born with meningoradiculocele for the first time. Such operations had not previously been carried out in the region, according to infohub.kz.
Meningoradiculocele is a type of congenital spinal hernia, classified as a defect in the development of the spine and nervous system.
According to the Ministry of Health, the child was only 16 days old at the time of surgery. To avoid damaging the nerve endings of the tiny patient, the medical team used a modern intraoperative neuromonitoring system — advanced medical technology played a key role in the success of the procedure.
The complex operation on the infant was performed by neurosurgeon Akhmet Oryn, neurologist Botagoz Muldasheva, assistant Yerbol Kenzhevalov, and anesthesiologist-resuscitator Amangeldy Duisenbek.
The surgery was successful. The infant is now under the supervision of a neurosurgeon, neurologist, urologist, and orthopedist, and his condition is assessed as satisfactory.
The baby still faces mandatory rehabilitation.
The Ministry of Health noted that this surgical intervention demonstrates that complex operations can now be performed locally in Mangystau, without sending patients to national clinics.
The ministry expressed gratitude to the doctors for their quality work and high professionalism. They wished the baby, who underwent such a complex procedure in the first days of life, health and long life.
