A surgeon has been detained in Aktau in connection with the death of a 13-year-old child at a regional hospital earlier this year, according to infohub.kz.
The Mangystau Region Police Department said the surgeon at the regional children's hospital was detained on October 1 under Article 128 of Kazakhstan's Criminal Procedure Code. He has been placed in a temporary detention facility.
The investigation established that shortcomings of an organizational, tactical, and diagnostic-treatment nature were committed during the provision of medical care to the child at the regional children's hospital.
After the minor's condition worsened, he was transported by air ambulance from Aktau to Almaty. However, the child later died.
"As part of the criminal case, necessary investigative actions have been carried out, medical workers have been questioned, and commission forensic medical examinations have been ordered. According to the conclusion of the commission forensic medical examination, shortcomings were identified during the provision of medical care to the minor that could have contributed to the development of complications," police said.
The department added that the pre-trial investigation is ongoing. A set of investigative measures aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident is being carried out. Other information is not subject to disclosure in the interests of the investigation.
Recall that earlier, Aktau resident Zhuldyz Azanova reported a medical error after which her 13-year-old son ended up in serious condition and subsequently died. The woman appealed to the President of Kazakhstan. According to her, it all began on January 17, when her son began complaining of abdominal pain that arose suddenly.
In April, the Ministry of Health said that after the child's death, unscheduled inspections were conducted at a hospital and clinic in the Mangystau Region and a number of violations were identified.
In August, the head of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akmaral Alnazarova, commented on the death of the 13-year-old child in Mangystau. The minister promised to meet with the teenager's mother.
