Kazakh athlete Marian Zhuravleva has become a three-time Asian Games medalist, earning another jiu-jitsu medal for Kazakhstan at the 2026 Asian Games hosted by Japan, infohub.kz reports.

The 38-year-old competed in the up to 63 kg weight category. After losing in the quarterfinals, she dropped into the repechage round and fought her way to a medal bout. In the bronze-medal match, Zhuravleva defeated Jordan's Maya Ishakat 2:0.

The Kazakh athlete has now reached the Asian Games podium in jiu-jitsu for the second time in a row. At Hangzhou 2022 she also won bronze, but competed under the surname Urdabayeva. At Incheon 2014 she took a similar medal in judo (up to 63 kg).

Another Kazakh, Azhar Salykova, was eliminated in the round of 16 in the same weight category, losing her opening bout.

Kazakhstan's national team thus claimed two medals on the final day of jiu-jitsu competition. Earlier, Merey Kabdullayev (up to 85 kg) won silver.
