American actress Mary Rivera, known for her role as Ned Leeds' grandmother in the Marvel film "Spider-Man: No Way Home," has died at the age of 82, according to infohub.kz.
A family member told TMZ that Rivera suffered a stroke in April and subsequently fell into a coma. Doctors warned relatives that even if she woke up, the prognosis would remain poor, so the family decided to remove her from life support.
According to an obituary published online, "Mary Egida Rivera passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, in Honolulu." It also states that she was cremated after her death.
The obituary notes that Rivera was born on June 2, 1943, in Iloilo City, Philippines. She spent many years as a church missionary and later appeared in "Spider-Man: No Way Home," where she played the Filipino grandmother of the character Ned Leeds.
"She was invited to the last film 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' to play the Filipino grandmother and was very proud of this achievement," the obituary reads.
The superhero film role was Rivera's only acting credit listed on IMDb. In one memorable scene, her character asks Andrew Garfield's hero in Tagalog to remove cobwebs from the ceiling, after which Ned translates the request.
The actress is survived by her husband Alejandro Rivera, four children, 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Released in 2021, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" grossed approximately $1.9 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film of that year.
