Nine people were seriously injured in a mass shooting that occurred overnight in downtown Tucson, Arizona. The suspect was wounded by police, according to infohub.kz.
According to police, shots were fired around 2 a.m. local time on East Congress Street. Nearby foot patrols immediately responded to the scene.
"Officers immediately ran toward the sound of gunfire and located the suspect. They repeatedly ordered him to comply with their commands, after which one of the officers fired his service weapon and wounded the suspect," Tucson police spokesman Frank Magos said at a press conference.
The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to a hospital. Police officials say he is in critical condition.
Nine people who investigators believe suffered gunshot wounds were also hospitalized in serious condition. All victims are adults and were wounded in the extremities.
The investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses at the nearby HighWire bar and Empire Pizzeria said they first heard gunshots and then saw a large number of police vehicles in the area.
