A powerful rockslide occurred in the mountains of Almaty: boulders the size of cars tumbled from a height of 2,500 meters near the Big Almaty Lake, reports infohub.kz.
Tourists who witnessed the incident filmed it and posted the video on social media. According to them, despite clear weather, rocks suddenly began to fall from the mountain, and a thick cloud of dust soon enveloped the area. Witnesses noted that they were at a safe distance, so no one was injured.
Commenters on social media almost unanimously say this is a warning from nature itself, urging people to stop building and destroying the environment.
The Department for Emergency Situations confirmed the information. According to their data, a rockfall occurred from a rocky section of the slope in the area of avalanche catchment No. 12. The causes of the collapse were natural weathering processes, temperature fluctuations, and the impact of precipitation.
The falling rocks did not reach the road. There were no casualties or injuries, and no destruction was recorded.
