The Paris Court of Appeal has ruled that striker Kylian Mbappé must pay Paris Saint-Germain €60,000 in compensation for the freezing of the club's accounts, initiated by his lawyers in spring 2025, according to infohub.kz.
The player is required to reimburse his former club for financial losses related to the blocking of its bank accounts. The payment amounts to €60,000, equivalent to nearly 31,000,000 tenge. The decision was based on reports by French publications L'Équipe and Le Parisien.
After his move to Real Madrid in 2024, Mbappé demanded €60 million from Paris Saint-Germain in unpaid bonuses and premiums. In spring 2025, his lawyers initiated the freezing of the club's accounts, which locked up its funds for 45 days, L'Équipe writes. In December 2025, the Paris Labour Court ordered PSG to pay Mbappé €61 million in compensation for unpaid wages and bonuses. Now the appellate court has ruled that the player himself must compensate the club for the temporary "unavailability of funds," which forced PSG to take out loans to "meet its current financial needs."
The court, however, rejected PSG's claims for moral and reputational damages. PSG had argued that the account freeze jeopardized salary payments to 724 employees, settlements with suppliers and tax authorities, and created a risk of FIFA disciplinary sanctions, including a transfer ban. The court found these arguments insufficient.
Mbappé played for PSG from 2017 to 2024. With the team, he won the French championship six times, the French Cup four times, and the French Super Cup three times.
He is France's all-time top scorer with 66 goals. In 2018, he became a world champion. At the 2026 World Cup, he was the tournament's top scorer.
