From 2027, Russia will introduce stricter rules for controlling foreign workers. This was announced by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, in a lengthy interview with Vedomosti, according to infohub.kz.
According to Medvedev, the increased concentration of migrants in certain areas is causing justified concern among Russian citizens. "First of all, the concentration in large metropolitan areas justifiably causes concern among our citizens. This is often linked to the presence of family members of newcomers, their low level of Russian language proficiency, their unwillingness to observe our norms and traditions, as well as cases of unlawful activity by foreigners. Some of these crimes generate very serious public outcry," he said.
Starting in January 2027, provisions of the law will come into force requiring foreign workers to support themselves and their families at a level not below the subsistence minimum multiplied by a regional coefficient. If tax authorities do not confirm that a migrant has income or determine that it does not meet the required levels, the patent or work permit will be annulled, and the foreigner and their family members will lose the right to stay in Russia.
Furthermore, as noted by the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, control in the migration sphere will be strengthened, including through biometric data and genome. Foreigners are now required to undergo a medical examination within 30 days to check not only for dangerous infectious diseases but also for drug use.
Medvedev also recalled the adopted amendments to the citizenship law, which significantly expand the list of grounds for terminating acquired citizenship. "The position here is clear: if you came to work, respect our customs and comply with Russian legislation. If you are not ready, get out of the country!" he concluded.
