The cruise ship Mein Schiff 3 collided with two cargo vessels shortly after leaving the port of Bremerhaven — the incident occurred on the evening of 25 October due to a gust of storm-force wind, reports infohub.kz.
As a result of the collision, the voyage to the Canary Islands had to be cancelled, and the ship itself was sent for repairs. At the time of the collision, there were 2,428 tourists and 922 crew members on board the cruise ship. None of them were injured.
Police said the smaller container ship sustained minor damage, while the larger one suffered significant damage. A several-metre-long hole was torn in the hull of the container ship, and container guides were deformed. Fortunately, because the damage was several metres above the waterline, no water ingress occurred on either vessel, police noted.
According to authorities, the cruise ship suffered significant damage to its lifeboats, associated cranes and hull plating. As a result, the ship safety service imposed a ban on all three affected vessels leaving port.
While leaving the port of Bremerhaven, the cruise ship Mein Schiff 3, with 3,350 people on board, was pushed by a powerful gust of wind into the cargo vessels. The voyage to the Canary Islands had to be cancelled.
