Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called on European countries to continue supporting Ukraine and prevent its capitulation, saying she does not "miss Russian tanks and the Berlin Wall," according to infohub.kz.
As reported by NUR.KZ with reference to European Pravda, the publication cites a translation of Meloni's speech in parliament ahead of the EU leaders' summit. The full text of the speech was published in Italian on the official website of the Italian government.
During her address, Meloni said she does not "miss Russian tanks," explaining to lawmakers the need to continue supporting Ukraine and prevent its capitulation.
"Capitulation is not peace, it is conquest. If Ukraine were to stop defending itself tomorrow, as many hope or propose, we would not get peace. We would be discussing the occupation of a European country and the return of Soviet-style imperialism, which Europe knew for half a century," she said.
"I do not miss the Russian tanks that crushed uprisings in Prague and Budapest, and I do not miss the Berlin Wall. And no one will convince me that the capitulation of those defending their freedom can be called peace. The peace we strive for and work to build, even at the cost of losing consensus, is a just peace," Meloni stated.
