German Chancellor Friedrich Merz described the crowd ramming at Berlin's Christopher Street Day parade as a 'despicable Islamist terrorist attack,' reports infohub.kz.
Merz also vowed a tough response to extremists, saying, 'These criminals, these extremists have no place in the heart of our society. We will not allow this poison of terrorism, this poison aimed at our freedom, to continue spreading in our society. Regardless of all party differences, we will defend the freedom of our society.'
Germany's Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig said the case would be transferred from Berlin police to the federal prosecutor's office. The Interior Ministry described the incident as a terrorist act.
Earlier, a car plowed into a crowd during the Christopher Street Day parade. Police later reported that special forces had neutralized the suspect.
