Argentina captain Lionel Messi said his team's World Cup final qualification is no coincidence. Few teams reach the final match in two consecutive tournaments, he noted, according to infohub.kz.
Messi emphasized that Argentina is currently the best team in the world. "We are in the World Cup final again after winning this tournament. We have been the best for the past four years — whether anyone likes it or not, no matter what anyone says. Today we are again among the two best teams in the world, and that shows that everything we have achieved was no accident and no one gave us anything. Reaching the final in two consecutive World Cups is an achievement few accomplish," he said in an interview with TyC Sports.
The team leader also said he decided to participate in this World Cup last year and worked hard to be in optimal form. "I made the decision to play in this tournament last year, constantly discussing it with the coach. I did everything possible to arrive in the best shape, prepared and trained for a whole year. I knew I would give everything to be in top form and enjoy it," Messi said.
Argentina defeated England to reach the 2026 World Cup final for the second consecutive time. At the previous World Cup, the Argentines won the championship.
It is also worth noting that Lionel Messi once again rewrote World Cup history in the match against England.
