Inter Miami striker Lionel Messi has been fined following the team's latest match, reports infohub.kz.
The incident occurred on August 19 during an away game against the Philadelphia Union, which ended in a 2-2 draw. In that match, Messi scored his first goal since the 2026 World Cup.
Late in the game, a scuffle broke out between the Argentine and Philadelphia midfielder Quinn Sullivan, during which Messi struck his opponent with an open hand. The MLS disciplinary committee reviewed the incident and determined that the blow was delivered to the face, head, or neck area. As a result, Messi was fined an undisclosed amount.
Inter Miami has 39 points from 20 matches and sits second in the MLS Eastern Conference, trailing only Nashville with 46 points.
