At least 10 people were killed and 64 others injured after an explosion of pyrotechnic materials in the town of Temascalcingo, State of Mexico. The incident took place in a church where a religious festival was being held. The shockwave caused part of the church's roof and a nearby wall to collapse. Several people were trapped under the debris.
"Eight people died at the scene, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals," said a statement from the State of Mexico government. Civil protection specialists, armed forces, and state police responded to the emergency and activated security protocols.
The Pyrotechnics Institute of the State of Mexico inspected the site for active explosives and issued recommendations to specialists for their disposal to reduce risks.
